Little Rock

Alan G. Williams (Al),77, died on March 2, 2022. Al was born on July 25, 1944 to

Marian and A.G. Williams.

He grew up in Monticello, Arkansas and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from

the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1966. He was a member of Sigma Nu

fraternity and served six years in the Arkansas National Guard.

Al returned to Monticello after graduation to join his father in Williams Music

Company and SEARK Lanes Bowling Center.

On December 4, 1968, he boarded a Delta flight in Memphis and his life was

changed forever. He often told the story of how he got off the plane in Little Rock

to purchase a ticket to get back on just to have more time with the flight

attendant, Carla Strain. He married her five months later, and they spent 52 years

together.

Al served as president of the Arkansas Music Operators Association, was a

member of Rotary Club, and chairman of the United Way. He served 27 years on

the Board of Directors at Union Bank.

Later, he established AGW Property Inspections. He became a member of the

National Association of Property Inspectors as well as the National Society of

Environmental Consultants.

Al and Carla worked tirelessly raising funds to build the original St. Mark’s Catholic

Church since there had been no church previously. He served as president of the

Parish Council and loved his role as a Sunday School teacher.

Al, an avid golfer, was a member of the Monticello Country Club since his college

days.

Always number one for Al was Carla and his girls, Paige and Beth. Whether it was

driving the cheerleading van, attending dance recitals or tennis tournaments, he

loved being there.

As his business expanded, he and Carla moved to Little Rock in 2002. They joined

Christ the King Catholic Church. They spent the next years making new friends and

mainly enjoying their grandchildren.

Al retired from Arkansas Roof Renew in 2018.

Survivors include Carla, daughters Paige Williams of Little Rock, Beth Hopkins and

husband Jonathan of Dallas, five perfect grandchildren: Garrett and Ella Jenkins;

Brooks, Saxby & Carter Hopkins as well as a sister Kay Wolfe of Jonesboro.

Al chose to be cremated and put to rest in the Columbarium at Christ the King

Catholic Church. It will be a private family burial.
