Bobby Gene Thompson

July 13, 1948 — April 12, 2026

Alexander, Arkansas

Bobby Gene Thompson, aka “Pappy” to many, was a loving father, grandpappy, son, brother, husband, cousin, uncle, and friend to so many. Pappy escaped the bounds of earth at 1:51 pm on Sunday, April 12, 2026, flying to heaven to be with his family and the love of his life and wife, Sue Thompson.

Bobby (“Pappy”) was born on July 13, 1948, at 11:45 pm, in Marshall, AR, at Marshall Hospital, to the late Lee Roy Thompson and Ercie Thompson (Garrison). He attended school in the Marshall School District. He worked for Coleman/Hiland Dairy for over 21 years before he retired due to his COPD. He rarely missed a day of work because of his dedication to it.

Pappy was a HUGE Hogs fan, CSI watcher, Cold Case Files watcher, and Judge Judy on Fridays, CMT on Sundays. Bobby would cook biscuits and gravy on Sunday mornings. He loved his riddles, his Sunday crossword puzzle in the newspaper, his Folgers Classic Roast coffee, classic solitaire, and his one coffee cup, and his nickname “Pappy” was made best by his grandchildren and neighborhood friends of his grandchildren.

He lived with his granddaughter since 2017, Marie, whom he helped raise since her birth, and her husband Stefano and their children, where he never missed a day of roblox, soccer, reading books, playing solitaire, or word games.

Bobby Thompson (“Pappy”) was also predeceased by his brothers Freddy Thompson, Ricky Thompson, and his sister Glenda Battershell, and his son David Barrentine. He leaves to mourn his passing his siblings, Ronnie Thompson, Donnie Thompson, Linda Wheat, Sharon Cline, and his children, Donnie Thompson, Danny Thompson, Bobby Thompson Jr, James Wood, Angel Wilkerson, and Jason Wilkerson. Also mourning are his grandchildren, Marie Zambrano, Emily Sutterfield, Erika Brotherton, Trinity Gossett, Stefano Zambrano, Bryan Lindsey and many other grandchildren whom he loved. His great-grandchildren are Xander, Ellie, Lauren, Luke, Madison, Leliana, Ethan, Matthew, and many other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family that weren’t blood but loved him dearly.

A service to honor his life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 6 pm at New Life Baptist Church off Samples Road in Benton, AR. The family welcomes all who knew and loved him to join in celebrating his life. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace. His love will live on in all of us, forever surrounding us.
