Colleen Krapcha, age 90, died peacefully on July 21, 2022. Her life began as Cressie Colleen Hunter in the town of Jefferson, Arkansas. She grew up in Augusta, Arkansas and left there as a young adult because she was adventurous, full of life, and wanted to see more of the world. Her travels took her all over the U.S., living in Texas, North Carolina, Hawaii, Nevada, Michigan, and Louisiana, eventually returning to Arkansas to spend her final years in Warren in the loving care of her dear friends Pam and Tommy Groves and Martie Doke. The complete list of people who loved and cared for her is too long to record here and includes friends who were more like family in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Florida.
Colleen was the youngest of five children, having two sisters, Mabel Hunter Mann and Muriel Hunter Burrow, and two brothers, J.C. Hunter and Edward Hunter, all of whom preceded her in death. She had two children of her own, a son, Bernard Krapcha and a daughter, Cheryl Wadsworth. Bernard lives in West Orange, New Jersey with his fiancé Jacqueline Pulitano, but Cheryl passed away in 2006, which Colleen often said was the most difficult thing she ever had to bear. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sandra Ray, her niece, and Sandra’s son Richard Wilson were especially dear to her.
Colleen worked hard all her life. After a short time as a nurse, she began bookkeeping, eventually becoming an office manager and Notary Public after taking accounting classes at night while raising two children largely on her own. She also took a class called “Auto Repairs For Dummies” and her son Bernard remembers seeing her outside changing the brakes on the family car by herself. While setting an example of self-reliance and motivation for her children, she also loved to have fun and made sure they knew work was important, but not the most important thing in life.
Colleen was a devoted Christian, and her life will be celebrated on Sunday, July 24th, 2022, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 113 Bradley 7 Rd S, Warren, AR 71671. A lunch will be served at 12:30 PM and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM. Anyone attending should dress casually and be ready to have fun, which is what Colleen would’ve wanted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity, the Ebenezer Baptist Church Food Pantry, C/O Pam Groves, 252 Bradley 26 Rd, Warren, AR, 71671.
