Dennis Lee Van Auken

Dennis Lee Van Auken was born on August 23, 1945. He passed on Sunday March 8, 2026 from complications of vascular dementia.

Dennis was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Marion and Helen Van Auken, he grew up on a farm near Salix, IA, graduating from Westwood High School in 1964. His first job was at Purina and then Firestone Tire before starting his career as a Frito Lay Salesman for 30 years.

Dennis is leaving behind his wife Karen, children Sherry Carey, Mark (Kelly) Van Auken, Lori Walk, stepchildren Steven (Traci) Karr, Jennifer Cook, grandchildren Savannah Van Auken, Alexander Van Auken, Alex Olson (Meghann Wilson), Emilia Cook, Jeff Dieck and Kyle Dieck, brothers Lyle Van Auken, Clifford (Deb) Van Auken and Donald (Sheila) Van Auken, brothers in-law Gary (Orlin) Herbst, Larry (Susan) Herbst, Dale (Janelle Herbst, Duane (Mary) Herbst and Dennis (Judy) Herbst.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Helen Van Auken, brothers Larry, Eugene and Richard.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
