Doris Kirkpatrick

July 23, 1923 — April 8, 2012

Doris Adell Jensen Kirkpatrick, passed away on April 12, 2012. She was born July 23, 1923 in Hanover, Wisconsin to Lewis and Mayme Jensen. She was the second of four children. She had two sisters, Jane who predeceased her, and Pat MacGowan who lives in Beloit, and she is predeceased by her one brother, John. Doris graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1949 with a degree in Natural Sciences. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Doris married Van Kirkpatrick on December 9, 1949 at Luther Valley Lutheran Church near Beloit, Wisconsin. They lived in Wisconsin before settling in Booneville, Arkansas in 1959. In Booneville, Doris was an employee of the Ace Comb Company and taught Junior High science for 10 years. She was a member of Chapter AI, PEO as well as First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member for many years. Doris and Van participated in several mission trips to Brazil and Guatemala where working with the children of those areas was very important to Doris. She is survived by her husband, Van, and their three children, Lois Schmidt, and her husband Dick, son Dan, and wife Becky, son Joel, and wife Kim. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Katie Choate, Dr. Rachel Smiley, Mary Doddridge, Michael Kirkpatrick, Leah Kirkpatrick, Rebecca Kirkpatrick, and Lauren Richardson; also two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Moon, and William Harrison Doddridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to American Bible Society, the Booneville Chapter of Gideons, and the Educational Building Fund at First Baptist Church in Booneville. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Booneville, AR on Saturday, April 14th at 10:30 am. Final resting place will be at Luther Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery near Beloit, Wisconsin.
