Dwight Charles Aitken

Dwight C. Aitken, age 95, passed away on August 6, 2026, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born on January 14, 1931 in Wichita, Kansas, to Charles M. and Fern (Miller) Aitken and raised on the family farm in Severy, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Virginia Aitken, and his son, Charles Aitken (survived by wife Bett of Pittsburgh, PA).

Dwight is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Rick) Mason of Broken Arrow, OK, Regina Aitken of Hot Springs, AR, Susan Martinez of Albuquerque, NM; his son, Steve (Connie) Aitken of Jamestown, KY; his grandchildren, Rachel and Natalie Martinez, Neil Myers, Shaun Aitken, Chris and Kyle Aitken; five great-grandchildren, Charlette, Cash, Crew, Ava and Layla Aitken; his brother, David (Audrey) Aitken of Roseburg, OR; and brother-in-law Marvin Neukirch of Topeka, KS.

Dwight built a long and skilled career as a tool and die machinist in the aviation industry, where his precision, craftsmanship, and dedication contributed to work of lasting value. His aviation contract work took him to Wichita, KS; Tulsa, OK; Waco, TX; Middletown, OH; and Los Angeles, CA. In the middle of those gigs, he worked a non-aviation job in Hot Springs, AR and eventually retired there.

Dwight was a lifelong Seventh-day Adventist and faithfully served his church in many capacities, including as a deacon, elder, and Sabbath School teacher. He also helped maintain church property, always noticing what needed fixing and quietly taking care of it.

In retirement, Dwight enjoyed piddling with rental houses and ended up using scrap materials to make Snoopy and Woodstock figures, which he gave to more than 100 friends and family across the country. In time, he inadvertently became known as “the Snoopy guy.” He and his neighbor, Ron Browitt, also found numerous projects to work on.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, with visitation at 5:30 p.m. and memorial at 6:30 p.m. at the Hot Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, 401 Weston Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913. The service will be livestreamed on FB and YouTube. Pastors Ron Ray and Andrew Adams and friend Kevin Carlisle will officiate. Dwight and Virginia will be interred together at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, KS, where they were born and raised.

The family is forever grateful to Nellie Calin, Mary Clark, and Regina Aitken for the excellent care they gave to Dwight and Virginia.

The family requests no flowers, but if you were a recipient of Dwight’s Snoopys, bring it to the visitation/memorial.

Dwight asked his children to tell everyone at his memorial, “Goodnight friends; I’ll see you in the morning!”
