Harryette Wood, 1948-2024
Loving Mama, Moody, and Auntie
The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you or forsake you, do not be afraid or dismayed.
Deuteronomy 31:8
Our mother awoke at the feet of Jesus, after passing away from this earthly life in the early morning hours of October 11, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Harryette was born in Helena, Arkansas on March 23, 1948 to Harry Kincaid Wood Jr. and Willene Erwin Wood. She is proceeded in death by her parents and eldest brother Harvey Erwin Wood.
Harryette was a loving mother to her three children who survive, Kincaid Mitchell Wood, Wendy Swingley Gordon and husband Todd, and Stephanie Wood McBane and husband Bradley. There is nothing we did or could have done that would have lessened her love for us. She loved us like Jesus does. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Rachel Corley, Ryan Micheal, Lilly-Claire, Adaline Dean, Sophia Mae, and Everlie Rowan, as well as sister, Miriam Gardner, brother, John Wood, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Harryette was raised in Marvell, Arkansas in the heart of “The Delta” and graduated from Marvell High School in 1966. She raised her eldest two children in various parts of the country as a military spouse and worked various clerical jobs over the years, Harryette had a way with people and loved serving others. Her smile lit up every heart she came in contact with. After raising her youngest daughter, Harryette settled back to Arkansas in the town of Benton where she worked for the American Red Cross and spent her time exploring the outdoors and local restaurants. Harryette's most joyous moments were when her children and grandchildren could be together with her. In her last weeks she got to spend time with them. A truley wonderful time for her and her family. A memory that we will hold dear in our hearts until we see her again.
Our mother’s biggest accomplishment in life was knowing Jesus, who she had a beautiful relationship with. She had her inner struggles as we all do in this earthly life, until we are home with Him, but she knew who she was in Christ, she knew she was loved, protected, chosen and fully know by Him. And even through her short, but intense battle with aggressive cancer she leaned on Him, and fully trusted our LORD. Through pain and suffering He delivered us from our sin, and through pain and suffering, Harryette was delivered into the arms of her savior.I can only imagine what it might be like, my mama, walking by His side.
A memorial service and scattering of ashes, is planned for March 23, 2025 at Marvell Eventide Cemetery in Marvell, Arkansas at 1:00PM, all are welcome. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in the memory of Harryette, be made to The Magic Foundation for Russell-Silver Syndrome or Samaritans Purse for Hurricane Helene disaster relief for Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.
