Jean Pierre Jeantheau, age 93, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away on September 18, 2024. Jean was born in Flushing, New York on July 16, 1931 to Gabriel Jeantheau and Margaret Farrell Jeantheau.

Jean is survived by his wife, Martha Jeantheau, and his children: Mark Jeantheau (Sky), Lauri Lambeth (Hunter), Leslie Auel (Carl), Christie Cornwell (Steve), and Nancy Doak (Earl); his grandchildren: Madison Cornwell, Eric Auel, Morgan Cornwell, Emily Siemens (Will), Mackenzie Cornwell (Michael), Jenna Dawson (Zach), Abby Auel, Haley Lambeth, and Carly Auel; his nieces: Anne Murn and Susan Nathan, and nephew Richard Jeantheau. Jean was preceded in death by his father and mother, as well as his brother, Garbiel Jeantheau, and sister-in-law, Sally Jeantheau.

After serving in the US Air Force, based in Okinawa, Jean graduated from Marietta College with a degree in English Literature. He worked as a civilian research analyst for the US Navy at the Naval Sea Systems Command. He was involved in many high-profile Navy efforts such as the Deep Sea Submergence Project and the Polaris program. Jean taught himself construction skills by reading technical manuals and how-to books. He learned how to do rough construction, roofing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, tile, flooring, painting, finish work, and more.

While still working at his Navy career, Jean would spend evenings and weekends improving the family house in Maryland. The many projects included a 5-bedroom, 2-bath 1,100-sqft addition. After he retired and moved to Arkansas, Jean bought and improved several homes, and he achieved his dream of building a house from the ground up. Though Jean stayed busy with work and projects, he always found time for family events, helping kids with homework, and playing games with his family. He found countless hours to help family and friends with their own construction projects. Jean married Martha Larson in 2002. They enjoyed working together on building projects, traveling the country and overseas, and attending social events. They hosted monthly shuffleboard tournaments and many fun-themed parties in their home over the years. A memorial gathering will be held in the fall.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of his love of building, contributions in Jean’s memory can be made to Habitat for Humanity.
