It is with deep sadness that family and friends say goodbye to Jennifer Ann Gillen Johnston. Born July 9, 1973, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Larry James Gillen and Kathy Ellenburg Gillen, Jen lived a life full of joy, spirit, and love.
A proud 1991 graduate of Hall High School, Jen was a cheerleader for the Mighty Warriors. She lit up every room she entered—always beautiful, fun, highspirited, and cherished by all who knew her. She held close her Theressa Hoover United Methodist Church family and Pastor Deborah Bell. She formerly served as a counselor in training at the Hoover Treatment Center.
Jen was preceded in death by her father, Larry James Gillen; her grandparents, John and Helen Gillen Kincheloe, and Earl “Son” and Barbara Simons Ellenburg; and her aunt, Amy Ellenburg Miller. As a child, Jen affectionately named all of her dolls “Amy,” a tender reflection of her love for her aunt.
She is survived by her mother, Kathy Hawks; her brother, Jason Gillen; her sister, Amber Hawks; and her longtime special friend, Charlie Garner, all of Little Rock.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 3:00 PM at Better Community Development Inc., EmPowerment Center, 3604 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas
