Jerome “Joe” David Greenwood Jr., 63, of Ash Flat, Arkansas, passed away on January 31, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas, with family by his side. Joe fought courageously for two years in his battle with cancer.

Joe was born on March 6, 1962, in St. Albans, Vermont, to Jerome “Joe” Greenwood Sr. and Judith “Judy” Greenwood. He spent his childhood enjoying time at Fairfield Pond, where his family had a camp and many cherished memories were made. Joe graduated from Milton High School in 1980.

Being the free spirit he was, Joe spent much of his adult life living in various places across the country, though he always considered Vermont home. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all sports. Joe was a devoted Miami Dolphins fan for many years, but after spending time living in Kansas City, he proudly cheered for the Chiefs in recent years. His family will remember him as a loving father and Papa.

Joe spent the last couple of years of his life building a home in the Arkansas woods for himself and his beloved wife, Ruth. As fate would have it, Joe and Ruth attended high school together in Vermont, but life took them on different paths. In 2023, after all those years, they reconnected, only to discover that although they both lived far from their hometown, they were only hours apart—Joe in Missouri and Ruth in Arkansas. Joe and Ruth were married on September 28, 2024. Ruth stood faithfully by Joe’s side throughout his illness and lovingly held his hand during his final moments.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Gaynon) Greenwood; his daughter, Jessica, of Harrisonville, Missouri; his son, Cody, of Plattsburgh, New York; his mother, Judy of Plattsburgh, New York; his five beloved grandchildren, Rileigh, Blaze, Kyia, Ash, and Rain; his brother, Wade, of Alabama; his sister, Dawn, of Grand Isle, Vermont; his brother-in-law, Tim, of Ash Flat, Arkansas; and his stepsons, Brad of the Philippines, Kyle and Tyler of Burlington, Vermont. Step grandchildren, Chloe, Kaylee and Colton

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Jerome “Joe” Greenwood Sr., in 2022 and his stepson, Kurt, in 2007.

Joe’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Abundant Life Church in Cherokee Village, Arkansas, for being a source of strength and support for Ruth during this difficult time, and most importantly for welcoming Joe, helping him grow in his faith, and giving him peace about what was to come.
