John Matthew Gray

April 14, 1984 — June 29, 2023

Mayflower, Arkansas

John Matthew Gray, 39, of Mayflower, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023. He was born April 14,1984 to Rex Allen Gray (surviving) and the late Lottie Jane Gray.

Matt is survived by his daughter, Lucky Gilmore-Gray, 19, of Oak Grove. She was truly his pride and joy from the very first moment he saw her. Matt spent the happiest moments of his life with Lucky, just hanging out with her, especially when she was little. He absolutely adored her, and believed that she was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He couldn’t have been prouder of her up until his very last day.

Throughout his life, Matt loved to play guitar, work on cars, rollerblade, skateboard and spend time with his family and friends. He held his loved ones to a high degree and would go the distance to protect them if need be. He also loved his dogs like they were his own kids and would rarely be seen without them. He had an amazing personality, a wonderful sense of humor, and a contagious smile. He was a very intellectual person with a huge heart that he wore on his sleeve. When you were with Matt, there was never a dull moment. He was always laughing, making jokes and carrying every conversation with random, interesting topics that would make just about anyone go into deep thought. He would make friends just about everywhere he went with his easy-going personality and friendly nature.

He was deeply loved and cherished by everyone in his family. More than just a relative, he was a friend to all of us and a best friend to some of us. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Matt is survived by his father, Rex Gray, brothers Mark Gray (Elizabeth) and Rex Gray Jr, his niece, Sydney Gray, nephews Anthony and Joshua Gray as well as 9 great-nieces and nephews.

We would like to invite all who loved Matt and to join us this Sunday, August 13 at 3pm on Petit Jean Mountain at Pavillion A to celebrate his life. This will be a very informal gathering so please come as you are. We only ask that you bring your happy memories and maybe share a story or two.
