Joseph “Joe” Marshall Byers, age 46; Born March 27, 1980, in Hot Springs, AR; Passed away September 11, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Little Rock, AR.
Joe graduated from Arkansas Tech University in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. In June 2007, he began his career at Southwest Power Pool. Joe served in the Army National Guard from 2001 to 2009 as a Specialist; he was ranked under Megan. He was stationed in Iraq from 2004 to 2005.
Joe is survived by his wife, Megan, and their four children, Paxton, Emory, Lennox, and Hollis, of Little Rock, AR; Parents Mike & Lisa Byers; Niece Katelyn Byers; Brother Caleb (Ashley) Byers; Brother-in-law David (Rebecca) Prater; Mother-in-law Denise Prater; Along with numerous extended family, friends, and chosen framily members with whom he spent much of his free time. He was preceded in death by his Granny & Poppy Les.
Everyone who knew Joe knew how deeply he loved his family. More than anything, he loved his wife, Megan. She was his best friend, his partner, and the center of his universe. His love for his wife was evident in everything he did. He cherished her, stood beside her, and spent his life doing everything he could to make sure she was cared for. Joe met Megan at a bowling alley in Ft. Sill, OK, on March 18, 2005, after returning from his 1-year deployment in Iraq. They went on one date, and the rest was history. They married October 14, 2006, in Enid, OK. His greatest pride and joy was being a father to his four children, Paxton, Emory, Lennox, and Hollis. He gave his children not only his time and attention, but his whole heart. He was the kind of dad who was always there for his kids: eager to listen to Paxton talk about his most recent special interests, arm wrestle Emory at the kitchen table, bring home more pet fish for Lennox than mom allowed, and chauffeur Hollis whenever she wanted to hang out with her friends. His family never had to wonder how much they meant to him because he showed them every single day.
Joe loved being in nature. He enjoyed hiking, paddleboarding, and birdwatching. He had an affinity for heavy metal music and loved taking all four of his kids to a wide range of concerts.
Joe has been a member of Asbury United Methodist Church since 2015. He would often serve with his family through the Asbury Food Pantry, Stone Soup, Ozark Mission Project, and volunteering with the youth. In one final selfless act, Joe was able to help five immediate families and numerous future individuals through the gift of organ and tissue donation.
His sudden passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness. Though his life was far too short, Joe leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through his wife, his children, and the countless people whose lives he made better by simply being there. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the way he loved; with his whole heart, without hesitation, and above all else, for his family.
A service will be held on September 26, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church in Little Rock, AR. The family has requested attendees wear their favorite band/concert or basketball t-shirt. The deceased may haunt anyone wearing Lynyrd Skynyrd or Michael Jordan shirts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Byers Family through Asbury UMC: https://onrealm.org/AsburyUnited/-/form/give/byers The Byers family expresses their deepest gratitude to the incredible Southern Legacy of Life organ donation team, Ty & Laney, for their profound care and guidance when their family needed it most.
