September 22, 1955 — March 20, 2024

Jerusalem, Arkansas

Lisa Leonard Hassell, aged 68, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away suddenly on March 20th after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Benton in 1955, Lisa dedicated her life to serving others as a registered nurse for over 40 years.

Her commitment to her profession extended beyond the hospital walls. Lisa was a passionate advocate for her community and sought to effect change through her involvement in politics. She boldly ran for state representative of her home district and played a pivotal role in securing grants for the construction of a new hospital in Clinton, Arkansas.

Lisa's love for nature and ecology was evident throughout her life. At the age of 16, she demonstrated her commitment to environmental conservation by purchasing a stretch of land to save a hardwood forest from being chopped down by lumber companies. Her dedication to preserving the natural world continued to be a driving force in her life.

In addition to her environmental advocacy, Lisa had a tremendous wanderlust and was a world traveler. Her adventures took her across the United States and Mexico, where she explored the rich diversity of landscapes and cultures. She also journeyed to Ireland and Scotland, immersing herself in the beauty and history of her heritage.

Lisa was not only known for her professional achievements and love of adventure but also for her remarkable character. She was incredibly smart, tough, and brave, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her kindness knew no bounds, and she was beloved by all who knew her, including her political rivals who held her in high regard.

Lisa is survived by her three sons, Leif, Dustin, and Joseph, along with their wives Julie, Rachael, and Katharine, and her three cherished grandchildren, Sadie, Levi, and Evelyn.

Lisa Leonard Hassell will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives she touched with her compassion, generosity, unwavering spirit, and dedication to preserving the beauty of the natural world and embracing the wonders of exploration.
