“It was Halloween night, 1959 …”

If you knew Mack Alec Truluck, Jr., you probably heard him say those words at least once. He loved nothing more than telling the story of LSU Heisman-winner Billy Cannon’s famous Halloween night run against Ole Miss - especially to his granddaughter, Emma. Mack had been at the game that night, selling concessions in the stands until he was caught watching the game and sent home. He didn’t leave, though, and heard the famous run and joined the cheering from just outside the stadium. 

Stories, family and LSU baseball were important to Mack, who passed away August 17, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas, after a long illness. A devout Christian, he enjoyed golf, music and spending time with his family and friends. Known for his warm smile, Mack believed in living life with childlike enthusiasm and often ended his letters, notes and phone messages with the words, “Have fun!”

Mack was born July 30, 1946, in James Island, South Carolina, and spent most of his life in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1964 and Northwestern State University in 1969 before returning to Baton Rouge, where he built his career and raised his daughter, Leigh. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Truluck, Sr. and Jane Hart Truluck; his sister, Mardel Truluck Smith; and his brother, Grier Truluck. He is survived by his sister, Mona Truluck of Baton Rouge; his daughter, Leigh Truluck Anderson and her husband, Rob; his beloved granddaughter, Emma Anderson, of Little Rock; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Mack and his family were deeply grateful for the kindness and care he received during his years in Little Rock, especially from his devoted caregiver and friend, Tongal Humphrey whose care and companionship meant so much to him and his family. They are also grateful to the caring communities at Parkway Village and Hickory Heights. 

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 30, at 2PM at the Parkway Village Chapel in Little Rock. There will be a celebration of Mack’s life on Saturday, September 19, at 2 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mack’s memory to Alzheimer’s Arkansas.
