In Loving Memory

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Makayla Frost Fortner, who left this world on June 11, 2025, at the age of 15. Makayla was a brilliant, dedicated soul whose presence brought warmth and energy to all who knew her.

Born on January 21, 2010, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Makayla grew up with a fierce love of life. She was an exceptional soccer player, a dedicated member of her school band, and a tireless advocate for animals. Whether she was giving her all on the field, playing enthusiastically in a halftime show, or volunteering to help dogs and cats, Makayla committed wholeheartedly.

Her compassion, especially for animals, knew no bounds. In her short time on earth, she made a real difference through rescuing strays, educating others about kindness toward animals, and always stepping up when help was needed.

Makayla was known for her radiant smile, quick wit, and her boundless energy. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and important. Her friends and family will remember her for her intelligence, laughter, loyalty, and unwavering heart.

She is survived by her mother, Stephanie Wilkie, aunt and uncle, Heather and Cabe Speer, cousin, Sterling, "Granny" Jeanette Kinley, "Mamaw" Janet Dykes, boyfriend, Hayden McCullar, godparents, Paul and Sabrina Stout, her favorite coach, Scott Bennett, and a large circle of extended family and friends who loved her dearly. Her beloved pets, who were as much a part of her family as anyone, will also feel the loss of her gentle care.

A celebration of Makayla’s life will be held on July 26, 2025 at Midland Soccer Complex. All who knew her are invited to attend and honor her memory by sharing stories, photos, and the love she gave so freely.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to any animal shelter or rescue, a cause in which Makayla deeply believed.

Though her time with us was far too short, the impacts Makayla made will last forever. She is deeply missed and will forever be remembered.
