Michael Steven Copeland, 73, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 29, 1952, in Abilene, Texas. He was raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as well as El Dorado, Arkansas, where he attended school and discovered his passion for music through the school band, playing the saxophone. He later built the foundation for his family in Little Rock.
Michael’s first career was with the family business, Jackpot, on Geyer Springs, where he met the love of his life, Tammy. On August 27, 1988, he married Tammy Copeland, whom he loved dearly and faithfully throughout their years together. In the spring of 1989, they welcomed their daughter, Megan, into the world.
Michael created a life filled with music, laughter, faith, and unforgettable memories. His family cherishes memories of beach vacations, walks through the daffodil fields, feeding the ducks, and attending classic rock concerts together. His favorite bands were The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Michael had a true talent for guitar and an ear for great music.
Sports were another great passion in his life, especially basketball. He proudly coached CAC girls’ basketball and loved cheering on his favorite teams — the Cowboys, Celtics, and Razorbacks. His family will always remember hearing his voice passionately calling out during every game.
Most of all, Michael was an animal lover. From his beloved dogs Shotgun, Dylan, and Delilah, to his faithful companion Max, he had a deep love and compassion for animals that reflected the kindness in his heart.
Michael was a devoted soldier of God, and through his faith became an amazing husband, father, grandfather lovingly known as “Pops,” brother, and friend whose strength, wisdom, and kindness touched everyone who knew him. He attended Abilene Christian University and, later in life, proudly earned his college degree in 2015 while working full time and continuing to support everyone around him. This accomplishment reflected his determination, perseverance, and deep love for his family.
Music remained at the center of Michael’s life, even leading him to California for a time as he explored his passion for it. Known to many as “Memphis Mike,” he began his career as a DJ before later working for KMTL Christian Radio, where listeners could count on hearing his voice every morning. He eventually finished his career with AllCare Pharmacy, surrounded by members of his church community who appreciated the wisdom and kindness he brought into their lives.
One of Michael’s greatest joys was spending time with his dear grandson Caleb, his “buddy,” creating memories together that will forever be treasured. He also deeply loved his grandson Axel and cherished every moment spent with his family.
Michael was known for his generous heart, strong Christian faith, incredible work ethic, and the steady love he gave so freely to his family. To those who knew him, he was a source of comfort, guidance, laughter, and unconditional love. He had a way of making people feel welcome, heard, and cared for. Whether through a story or simply his presence, Michael left a lasting impact on everyone around him.
To his daughter, he was more than a father — he was a protector, a teacher, and a best friend. The lessons he taught, the strength he showed, and the love he gave will live on through the family he cherished so deeply.
Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing his love and legacy will remain with us forever. He will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and never forgotten.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Copeland; his father, William Copeland; his sister, Pamela Copeland; and his brother, David Copeland.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Copeland; his daughter, Megan Minick; his grandsons, Caleb Cavanaugh and Axel Minick; and his brother, Billy Copeland.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Michael’s life on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Central Church of Christ, 823 W. 6th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas.
