Ovie Wood

August 2, 1947 — July 28, 2022

Pine Bluff, Arkansas

Alton Wood, 74, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas safely traveled home into the arms of Jesus on July 28, 2022. His wife Sharron, was by his side singing his favorite hymns,  "He Touched Me" and "It is Finished" as he left his earthly dwelling place. His faithful dogs, Coco, Sophie, Penny and Sadie were there along with the Heavenly Host that were sent to bring him home.

Alton left to cherish his memory his daughters Jenan Blank(Colin), Amanda Fultz (Thomas), and Miranda Dennis. He also left his honorary son Tiger Dockett, honorary daughter Kaye Dison. He left his grandchildren Dylan, Zoe, Charlie,Jayden, Lakin, Macy, Alyssa, Taani and Jordan as well as his sister-in-law, Cathy Ruhl, brother-in-law, Mike Adair (Sherry) and his nieces, Bridget Barton (Todd), Gharon Camp, and Dani Camp as well as his nephews Chad Wood (Mollie), Keenan Camp (Teresa)

Alton had many friends whom he loved. He never met a stranger. The following friends are by no means all but some that were close to his heart: first wife, Paulette Cato and her husband, Mike Cato, Roy & Angela Dennis,  Richard & Joann Wegner, Tiffany Defoor, Molly Wingard, Bill & Stephanie Wiegand, and  James & Brenda Rushing.

Alton was a member of Pursuit Church in White Hall Arkansas. He was a lifetime member of the Pine Bluff Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He was an avid sportsman but his passion was golf. He achieved 7 hole in one's. The last hole in one occurred when he was 70 years old at the Jaycee Municipal golf course.

He loved singing Gospel hymns and served as a music director in Zachary, Louisiana. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. On Tuesday, July 26 he played his last practical joke on his favorite Hospice Nurse, Jenna. He never lost his sense of humor.

Alton graduated from Watson Chapel High School, Pine Bluff, Arkansas Class of 1967.

He worked for Pine Bluff Commercial, Sears, and Cotton Belt Railroad. He was the first full time paid City Marshall in Redfield, Arkansas, a Patrolman for the ElDorado Police Department and was a Patrolman, F.T.O., and Public Relations Officer heading up the Explorer Program and playing McGruff the Crime Dog with the Pine Bluff Police Department. He retired from the Pine Bluff Police Department as a Patrolman. He volunteered as an Auxiliary with Search and Rescue with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and as an Auxiliary Officer for the Pine Bluff Police Department before moving into full time Law Enforcement. He worked part time as a Training Instructor at ADC Training Academy.

He was loved and cherished by many friends and his family. He never lost his passion for Law Enforcement nor his ability to make people laugh. He had two sayings in our family, "Do you know who I am?" and "It jumped in the basket!" He cooked the best hamburgers and was famous for his Egg Hole in the Bread. His ice water always tasted the best! He believed in Jesus Christ and was saved at 12 years old. His family knew from experience there was the right way, the wrong way and Alton Wood's way. On July 28, 2022 at 12:41 am, he definitely did it his way.
