Bob grew up in Lonoke, Arkansas, spending his formative years in the community of Pettus, south of Lonoke. He was an honor graduate of Lonoke High School, attended Ouachita Baptist University, and graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, College of Pharmacy. He lived most of his professional life in Hope, Arkans, and eventually retired to Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was a Registered Pharmacist and had a long and rewarding career beginning in Lonoke, Arkansas followed by many years in Hope, AR. In addition to his retail pharmacy, he was well known for his “Christmas Shop” during the holiday season. Bob loved his work, especially the people, and had a large following of loyal patrons. He had a servant’s heart with his endeavors.
He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church. Through the years he served the church in multiple capacities at both First Presbyterian of Hope and Second Presbyterian of Little Rock. His faith was important to him, and he demonstrated this in his daily life and personal values.
Through the years he went by many names; Bobby, Bob, Dad, Uncle Bob and GranBob. He truly loved and adored his family; they were the center point of his life. He stated many times they were the greatest blessing that he had received. It has been said that he was the father of one but the dad to four.
He was a member of the Razorback Foundation, a true razorback sports fan, especially football. He liked to read American history; he was particularly fond of the military history of our country. He read many volumes about the leaders, the campaigns, and the politics of our country’s conflicts. A special interest in his reading was European royalty and institutions, as well as the Russian monarchies.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, who was the love of his life, Sandra Bowers Lessenberry; four children Donna Childress of Little Rock, Monty Freel (Angie) of Bryant, Lee Lessenberry (J’Ann) of Benton, and Carol Markle (Todd) of Taneytown, MD.
