Shelby Gene Smith of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Jefferson Regional Hospital at the age of 75.  He was the son of the late Van Henry and Vallie Harvill-Smith, and was a believer of Jesus Christ of the Baptist faith.

He was employed by Varco Pruden for over 38 years. He had a wealth of knowledge of the care and operations of vehicles and anything with moving parts. He was a perfectionist when it came to welding.

After enduring being the younger one and picked on by his three older brothers, he became the caregiver for his three youngest siblings while his parents worked.  Shelby was a quiet, hardworking man who took care of his family throughout his life.

After retirement he loved the outdoors and taking care of his home and place. He had such a soft spot for animals, taking in any strays and making them part of the family.  The “serious” Shelby became laid back and full of laughter. He would love to pick at his family. When he was picked at as well, he would make such hilarious comebacks and remarks. The family would all be laughing at his comments. There was never a dull moment around the house when everyone was there. He was so soft spoken and always had such a beautiful smile for anyone he greeted.
