Shirley Ann (Donham) Nutt

Shirley “Ann” Donham Nutt was born November 15, 1937 to Gordon and Ethel Donham, of Monticello, AR. She was the youngest of nine children. Ann is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Ralph Donham, Mildred Burke, Madie Haney, Mary Haltom, James Donham, Helen Dennis, Everett Donham, Evelyn Donham and a stepson, Steven Nutt. Ann is survived by a stepson, Victor Lee Nutt III (Carol), God daughter, Jennifer Gregory, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

After graduating from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, Ann began her career as an elementary school teacher. Her love of teaching took her to schools at the Little Rock Air Force Base, DeWitt, Dermott, St. Louis, MO, Virginia and Maryland. The English teacher in her continued to correct those around her until a couple of weeks before her passing. She was also quick to let those around her know, “You’re not listening to what I’m saying!” if she felt she was not being heard. Ann will always be remembered for her gift of storytelling, the way she entered a room, and being the life of the party.

Ann married Victor Lee Nutt, Jr. in 1963. Their marriage took them to many places in the United States and abroad. She would often speak of the different dignitaries she had met on the journeys with Victor. Her most memorable moment was meeting Robert Redford. In 1979, Ann was ordained as a deacon at Briggs Memorial Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

Ann had a talent for blowing duck calls. In 1981, she won the Pensacola Ducks Unlimited duck calling championship. She did not enter the contest the next year to defend her title, but instead served as a judge. Ann could be seen driving around Pensacola practicing her duck calling.

Ann had a family of facebook friends. She loved each one of them dearly. In the last years of her life, her facebook family occupied a lot of her time and kept her laughing. She enjoyed sharing her stories, photos, and the love she had for her family to this extended family.

A celebration of her extraordinary life will be held on August 14, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the Burns Park Hospitality House in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
