Emblem

Thomas J. Chaney, Sr. was born in Milan, IN on June 15, 1947, and passed away in Hot Springs, AR on March 14, 2026.

Tom dedicated his life to service and care for others beginning with his enlistment in the Marine Corps. He went on to have a successful and accomplished career in law enforcement in the states of Arizona and Washington before retiring from his position as Chief of Police in Federal Way, WA, in 2001. In retirement, he took on leadership roles in his church and worked part time as a tax preparer.

Tom will be remembered for stories he told, his pranks, and his sense of humor. Even during the last days of his life, he said that he just wanted “to help people and to make them laugh”. He usually accomplished those goals, sometimes in the most aggravating ways.

We are grateful for the presence of Tom in our lives. We will miss his love and care, his counsel and advice, his instinct for knowing when to comfort or to encourage; but he has provided us with memories that will continue to make us laugh.

Tom is survived by his wife, Dana; sons Thomas, Jr. and James; daughters Marla (Chuck Sebarino) Hampton and April Thomas; brother Wayne (Tarrie) Chaney; sister Gaye (Jerry) Swaim; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
