Hector Gomez

July 28, 1928 — October 8, 2020

Little Rock, Arkansas

Hector Mauricio Gomez, 92, of Little Rock, our beloved husband, dad, and abuelo, passed into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on October 8, 2020. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on July 28, 1928 to Maria Gracia Santana and Mauricio Gomez. He married the former Maria Rosa Orsenigo in 1957, and together they raised their two daughters.

His early accounting career began at Alpargatas Argentina and later at Bank of Tokyo in Buenos Aires. In 1972, with the prospect of better opportunities in the greatest country of the world, he proudly and legally immigrated his young family of four to Little Rock, Arkansas as proud U.S. citizens. Starting a new life, in a new country, with a new language had its difficulties. Headstrong and proud, determined to live by example, he taught his family the value of hard work by working hard himself, at times holding three jobs simultaneously.

A jack of all trades, during his last 48 years, he worked as a bookkeeper for Jacuzzi Brothers and Doctors Hospital, as the bandito at Casa Bonita, as a 2nd degree black belt Judo instructor, and lastly as a Spanish interpreter, and barber until his retirement in 2017.

He enjoyed cooking and gardening, but mostly spending time with his adored grandchildren. Endeared by many, no matter where his family went, people who knew Hector would comment to them, “what a funny, sweet man he is.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alberto Gomez. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maria Gomez; daughters Gracie Meeker (Rusty), Sandra Bowden (Larry); his grandchildren, Jeffrey Ward, Jake Meeker, Samuel “Carter” Bowden, and Madelyn Grace Bowden; bonus grandchildren, Wyn Bowden (Ginny), and Mary Bowden Garrett (Trey), along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 17th, 2020 at Christ the King Catholic Church with interment immediately following at the adjacent columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 4000 N. Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72212.
