John Herring

John C. Herring “Feddie” of Hot Springs Village, AR, died June 20, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, AR. He was born January 14, 1943 in North Little Rock, the son of John L. and Ann Herring.

John graduated from Ole Main, North Little Rock, Class of 1960. Growing up John was an avid swimmer and diver in which he held some state records. He worked for the Boys Club of America in North Little Rock, AR as a lifeguard before moving to Texarkana, AR where he was the Executive Director. John loved mentoring and coaching the young boys and girls. He would eventually become the Executive Director of several Boys and Girls Clubs of America from Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas and Westminster, California. John moved back to Arkansas and would retire at CATA. John couldn’t retire though after moving to Hot Springs Village and would see his last years as driver at Oaklawn Park. John loved bowling, playing golf and softball, working in his yard, and watching the horse races at Oaklawn Park.

John is preceded in death by his parents and one sibling Elizabeth Ann Prause. He leaves to cherish his memory wife Mary Cleek Herring of North Little Rock, and his sons Steve (Mandy) Herring of Hot Springs and Michael Herring of Dallas, TX; his brother Jim (Pat) Herring of North Little Rock; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his companions Bree and Cody and a many other extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Community of Joy Lutheran Church, Hot Springs Village, AR on July 3, 2021 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Saline County, Hot Springs Village, AR or Stand Up to Cancer.
