Ronnie Womack

February 23, 1945 — March 5, 2022

Pine Bluff

Ronnie Lavelle Womack left this earthly world and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, his savior, on March 5, 2022. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.

Ronnie was born in Jackson Parish, LA on February 23, 1945, the first of five children to Lavelle and Earnestine Womack. He entered the Navy on his 17th birthday in 1962 and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He served in the South China Sea and Japan during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge in 1965, Ronnie returned to Louisiana where he started his family. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Sue Boydston.

Railroading was Ronnie’s lifelong career which began with Illinois Central in 1966 in Monroe, LA. That 40-year career took him from Monroe to Pine Bluff, AR, Herrington, KS with the Southern Pacific Railroad, and then back to Pine Bluff before retirement in 2006. It only took a few months before Ronnie knew retirement wasn’t for him and he joined his brother, Bud pipelining in Texas for four years. After helping care for his parents until their deaths, Ronnie returned to pipelining a few more years.

Restoring old cars was a love of Ronnie’s from a young age. He also loved traveling and woodworking in his spare time. He was a self-taught carpenter and built two homes for his family. In his retirement years, he worked with excellence and perfection to craft many pieces of furniture for Sue and his immediate family, leaving treasures for them to cherish.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Josh Womack. Survivors include Sue, his devoted wife of 50 years, son Randy (Connie) Womack, daughters Cassandra Bennett and Angela (Gary) Blaylock, brother Gerald “Bud” (Benita) Womack, sisters Cheryl Womack, Christina (Chuck) McCraw, and Colleen (Vic) Simmermaker; 10 grandchildren, Justin (Laura) Womack, Jessica (Scott) Dunn, Jeremy (Savannah) Womack, Brittney Morris, Morgan (Anson) Meador, Alexis (Michael) Riojas, Makenzie (Isiah) Stavitsky, Breianna Cochran, Amie Worlds; 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well Laura Billings (mother of Randy and Cassandra).

A celebration of Ronnie’s life will be held Thursday, March 10 at 11:00 AM at Oakland Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
